Objective: Constant Improvement of our Energy Efficiency
VOIT places its main focus on constantly improving its energy efficiency.
To achieve this, among other things, the substitution of electricity is being extended by using excess heat from the combined heat and power plant e.g. for heating processes in the industrial washing facilities, for the hot water supply and room heating. The aim is to achieve zero KWh consumption for room heating.
For years now, VOIT has been using the residual heat from the melting furnaces for preheating aluminium bars and thus reducing gas consumption and consequently resulting in a reduction in melting energy.
Special focus is placed on the efficient use of energy when purchasing new machines and equipment. Not only the procurement costs, alone, play a role when selecting the machines but also, to a large degree, the degree of energy efficiency of the machines.
Another huge factor in reducing energy costs, which is, however, often underestimated, is pressurized air. We place great importance on this topic and, by installing measuring instruments, we have created a control mechanism which enables us to detect leakages at any time.
The responsible and economical handling of resources such as energy, raw materials, auxiliary and operating materials is a matter of particular importance at VOIT. Against this background, cost-conscious handling of resources is decisively linked to minimizing the impact on the environment.
Through constantly optimising processes, we are able to continuously reduce emission levels. This not only leads to benefits for individual employees but also results in a significant degree of environmental protection. By substituting operating materials and auxiliary materials, we have managed to achieve an additional improvement in the air in production halls.
Another point with regard to handling of resources is that, at VOIT, a proportion of the scrap which results from the stamping process is recycled and aluminium chips are remelted and fed back into the production cycle. As a consequence, resources are conserved and costs are reduced.
One important environmental objective for the future is to have production which is largely free of waste water. Relieving the burden on natural resources and conserving them is a very important issue for us. We ensure that our employees also support this desire for a clean environment.
Accountability: Saving Energy is a Joint Responsibility
VOIT is committed to numerous energy efficiency networks in the Saarland and is a member of the workgroup for rational use of energy (Saaris) and also a founding member of the workgroup for the environment.
In numerous training programmes, we increase awareness among our employees with regard to handling energy and resources and conserving our environment.
Our training workshop is also dedicated to the topic of energy in the training of our apprentices. For example, a voluntary team of our youngest employees, under the leadership of training manager Niki Rohe, is being trained as “energy scouts” for the second time. This is a project of the Saarland Chamber of Industry and Commerce in cooperation with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the corporate network for climate protection.
